In November 2025, Kenya participated in the second Africa Society for Laboratory Medicine Special Convention on Diagnostics in Nairobi. The meeting focused on diagnostics, AMR surveillance and innovative financing.
The Ministry of Health highlighted expanded laboratory networks, strengthened genomic and AMR surveillance, and integration of diagnostics into primary health care. Discussions also covered new diagnostic technologies, integrated surveillance models and sustainable financing.
The convention brought together scientific, policy, industry and partner perspectives. These themes connect laboratory evidence with the wider response to drug-resistant infections. Reliable diagnostics and surveillance help inform clinical care, prevention and stewardship.
