A shared national responsibility
Kenya’s response to antimicrobial resistance brings together human health, animal health, agriculture, fisheries, the environment and other sectors through a One Health approach. The Kenya AMR Secretariat supports coordination across national and county levels so that policies, evidence and practical action can work together.
Our role
The National Action Plan on Prevention and Containment of Antimicrobial Resistance 2023–2027 sets out the Secretariat’s role in policy implementation, stakeholder engagement, support for technical working groups, and monitoring of the national plan.
Within the Kenya National Public Health Institute, antimicrobial resistance and infection prevention and control contribute to the public health mandate of the institute.
One Health in practice
Protecting the effectiveness of medicines depends on healthier communities, safer care, responsible antimicrobial use, sound animal husbandry, resilient food systems and a healthier environment. Collaboration across these areas is central to Kenya’s national response.
